Composer, arranger, conductor
Damiano is a versatile and multi-talented composer, arranger and conductor who won the prestigious Rogier van Otterloo Award in 2019. He has written arrangements for jazz and pop artists such as Lalah Hathaway, Kurt Elling, Jacob Collier, Dee Dee Bridgewater, George Benson, Chaka Khan, Lizz Wright, Take 6 and many others.
Damiano regularly collaborates with the Dutch Metropole Orchestra and its chief conductor Jules Buckley. He has worked for orchestras such as the WDR Big Band and Funkhausorchester Cologne, the Heritage Orchestra, the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, the SWR Big Band Stuttgart, the Marinierskapel and the Balletorkest of the Dutch National Ballet. Damiano is one the orchestrators involved in the critically acclaimed Jacob Collier cd "Djesse Vol. 1" (Decca) recorded with the Metropole Orkest led by Jules Buckley.
In 2016, 2017 and 2018 he was one of the arrangers involved in the Quincy Jones celebration concerts that were performed in many of the major European summer festivals (BBC Proms 2016 with Metropole Orkest, Jazz Open Stuttgart 2017, Umbria Jazz 2018 and more). These concerts featured - besides Quincy Jones himself - artists of the likes of George Benson, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Jacob Collier, Take 6 and Patti Austin.
In 2015 Damiano was selected to take part in the prestigious Metropole Orkest Arrangers Workshop and he arranged music for the concerts featuring Lalah Hathaway and honorary conductor Vince Mendoza. Between 2015 and 2018 Damiano was invited three times in a row to write for the yearly Arrangers Workshop of the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw led by Michael Abene, Dennis Mackrel and Ken Schaphorst. In the same year a jury including composers Bob Zimmerman and Martin Fondse gave Damiano the first prize of Ricciotti's Arranging Competition for his orchestral arrangement of Maurice Ravel's "Sonatine".
Damiano has published his first CD as co-leader and conductor of the large ensemble “Beltway Bandits”. The record features music of Damiano himself and of Argentinian songwriter Kevin Halporn. Listen now on Spotify.
